Weekly Update

October 10th-14th

Hello Families!
Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:

  • This Friday is a half day.
  • The box top competition starts this week!  Please send in any box tops that you can!  Each box top raises $0.10 for our school!
  • If you have not already, please make sure to turn in the rollerskating permission slip that was sent home last week.  I attached a second copy to my email about this update!
Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  This week, we will continue our second writing unit,
Adapting and Writing Fairy Tales.  We will focus on acting out the scenes in our adapted fairy tales in order to include every detail and action possible. We will also work on including narration in our fairy tales.

Reading: This week we will continue our second unit: Character Studies
.  As we study the characters in our book, we will notice that our stories are often like mountains.  We will follow our characters as they go "up" and "down" the mountain, making predictions along the way.  We will also take a look at how our characters react to the "trouble", or problems, in our books.  We will also start Book Clubs this week, where students will read a book with a group of friends and discuss things like the characters.

Science:  This week we will begin our next science unit, chapter 4: Living Things.  We will focus on the life cycle of mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.

Math:  This week we will begin Chapter 4: Understanding Multiplication.  I know the class is extremely excited about starting this chapter!  We will focus on modeling multiplication through equal groups as well as repeated addition.

Have a great week!
