September 6th-9th
Hello Families!
Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
Important Reminders:
- Book orders are due Friday, Sept. 9th! Remember for this month only, if our class spends at least $300 in book club orders the class will be given 10,000 bonus points to use towards FREE books!
- Don't forget your child may bring in a snack and water bottle!
Weekly Objectives:
Writing: This week we will choose one entry from our collection of narrative pieces that we will develop into a finished piece. We will study multiple leads that we can try on our stories as well as storytelling our pieces in order to develop more details!
Reading: During reader's workshop we will continue building our reading lives by making higher-level predictions about our texts. We will also focus on retelling our texts in order to begin discussions about what we are reading.
Science: We are going to continue our first science chapter (Chapter 3) and we will focus on the life cycle of plants. The test for this chapter will be this Friday the 9th. The study guide was sent home last Friday in order to get an early start on studying!
Math: This week we will continue Chapter 1: Place Value. We will work on using the "CUBES" strategy when solving word problems as well as reviewing for our test which will be this Thursday the 9th. The study guide will be going home with your child on Wednesday! It is already filled out but please review the questions with your child. We will be playing a review game on Wednesday that uses the questions from the study guide!
Growth Mindset
I loved introducing the growth mindset to our class last week! We had a great time learning about our brains and the neurons that grow as we learn new things. We talked about ways to change our words to reflect the growth mindset in our classroom. Pics to come soon of our Growth Mindset display! Be sure to ask your child what they learned about a fixed vs. growth mindset last week!
STEM Scouts comes to Concord! This program is a hands-on, fun, and challenging way for youth to learn about STEM and the different career avenues STEM offers. With the new STEM Scouts pilot program, we want to invigorate excitement around STEM knowledge in youth. STEM Scouts is a coed program for youth in 3rd – 12th grade and helps them learn the values of Scouting through immersion in STEM activities. This program is designed to offer a program to students who are interested science, technology, engineering, and math and may not be interested in the typical Scouting program.
Through weekly afterschool meetings using four- to six-week thematic modules that cover a variety of disciplines, STEM Scouts is designed to be fast paced, thought provoking, and fun. The coed program provides a great opportunity for collaboration and gives all youth a chance to develop better STEM understanding and skills.
STEM Scouts is designed to be youth led with adult guidance, teaching youth the inner workings of a lab through fun, interactive modules designed for the perspective age groups. STEM Scouts focuses on showcasing STEM professionals and STEM organizations/companies as partners. If you would like to learn more, please attend an informational meeting with your child on Wednesday, September 14th @ 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.
