Happy Birthday Colin!

Mystery Reader - Katie's Mom

Thanks to Katie's mom for coming to read to us yesterday, especially since she was still not feeling great!  We loved the book "Brief History of Everyday Objects" that you read to us first.  We loved hearing about how roller skates, kitty litter, and Monopoly came to be.  I think I am going to have to buy this book for our classroom library!  We also enjoyed the book "The Scrambled States of America."  That was a funny book with a great lesson!

Hello Families!
Listed below are the important reminders and objectives for our week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Important Reminders:
  • Permission slips were sent home a couple weeks ago for a field trip this Friday, March 3rd.  Please sign and send that in as soon as possible!
  • Mother/Son Dance is tomorrow night - Feb. 28th

Weekly Objectives:

Writing:  We will continue working on our fourth writing unit: Persuasive Speeches, Petitions, and Editorials. This week we will work in cause groups. In these groups, students will write petitions, editorials, and speeches for or against a cause of their choosing.

Reading: This week we will continue our newest reading unit: Mysteries!  We will collaborate with partners to solve mysteries by thinking about the suspects and clues we know about so far.

Math: This week we will continue working on Chapter 10: Fractions.  We will be exploring equivalent fractions and looking at fractions as one whole.

Science/Social Studies: Due to many events happening during our social studies and science time over the next few weeks we will not be starting another social studies or science chapter until the end of the third quarter.  Instead, we will be taking this time of the day to review the reading and math Galileo tests in order to make sure we are remembering concepts and skills that we have previously learned!

Have a great week!

Outside Reading

Since the weather is PERFECT outside today, we took our reading class outside to discuss our Mystery Books with a partner, and spend some time reading.
